Recycling

There's always a useful application when you have a spare skull with horns laying around!

It's staff meeting day and I'm busy getting food this morning. I'll post more in depth tomorrow!

We're back!

We drove 1800 Miles in 5 days. I know you're envious! My butt may never recover!

I'll have lots of stories and pictures to share.

But for now, I must go to work...

And that means finding some clean clothes...

And, unfortunately, getting back in the car.

Yours in mental disarray,

Bad photography

I'm posting a few additional shots TOG and I took last weekend. I find it interesting to shoot with TOG because he sees things completely differently than I do. Not in a bad way, just differently...

Take the shot above... TOG insisted I take this shot. When I hesitated, he explained that he loved the green of the bank of trees next to the water. I felt it wasn't enough of a focol point so I framed in the rocks in front of us as well to give perspective. Otherwise it would have looked like this...

Which is the shot TOG wanted me to take. Either way, I wouldn't have shot it. Which is why it's so entertaining to do photography with him!

Now this shot I took. TOG thought it was a bad shot. He's right. It's bad in that it isn't interesting at all. That's because it is the town I live in. Nothing happens here. Let me give you a tour. See the orange cone on the far right left? That's the entrance to the harbor. We don't have a boat, so it's not interesting at all. See all the condos facing the water? This is where we can't afford to live. They have a beautiful view of Maury Island and Puget Sound. See the tiny water tower on the far left right? That's the hill I live on... That's really about all there is in our town aside from a couple of dive restaurants, a few stoplights and good proximity to the airport and the main freeway to Seattle. This is the charm of our town, this little pocket of non-development so close to the "big city"!

This concludes our tour of bad photography!

This and That

One of the last shots I got Sunday was this immature eagle in one of the trees overlooking the pier.

He must have had lunch up there with him. He was being yelled at by the crows and was remarkably unaffected by their ruckus! No way was he stepping away from the buffet! (I know that feeling!)

Getting ready to get K3 up. We are off to her intake session this morning. She is not looking forward to the process.

Why do some people take something "this big" and turn it into something "that big"?

I really cannot recommend getting a Chihuahua unless you're on board with the "grape sized bladder". Something must be done!

I woke up feeling like someone rammed a railroad spike in my right ear. That's normal, right? That throbbing feeling should go away by lunch time?

I think my computer ate the paperwork I needed for this morning. I left it open and now I don't see it. Crap-sicles.

Can someone take over for me for the next couple hours so I can go back to bed? Thanks!

At the Pier

Last Sunday, on the way back from seeing my step-brother off, TOG and I stopped at the pier. The weather was mild and the sky had a few high clouds.

I set the camera up so I could shoot into the sunny clouds.

It had the added advantage of creating some neat almost-silhouettes!

I love the contrast of the warm sun, blue sky and white clouds!

And yes, I did leave my camera in my office, I did lock my door, and this was why I wanted the darn thing, I hadn't even gotten to see the shots!

What have you forgotten lately?

Wishing you a lovely Wednesday!

Calling Card

Mt Rainier leaves its calling card all over the Puget Sound region. This particular view is one of my favorites...

You see it as you leave the valley where I work and drive up onto "the plateau" where there are a number of little towns... This is the view coming up the crest from the valley.

I always think the mountain is announcing itself...

"Here I am. I am awesome."

And I'm pretty sure I heard, "AG, Where is your camera?"

It's on the seat next to me. I'm ready for you, Bub!

Do you keep a camera handy when you're out driving around?

Have a great weekend!

Stop the Car!

This was one of the last shots I took at Blogfest, taken when Lauren, Shelley and I were leaving Bud's beach.

I had been trying to get the "perfect" sunset picture because I knew Bud's bay had it to give. Last year's sky was amazing. So when I looked out the car window and saw this sky, I likely scared Shelley to death by yelling "stop the car!" as I fumbled for my camera! But I was totally focused on getting this shot!

I love the color. Flat out. Period.

Love. The. Color.

When I look at shots like this, I always think about what's to come. Even as a beautiful sky whispers about the peace that comes at the end of the day, to me... it also murmurs about the possibilities of tomorrow. Skies like this fill me with contentment and hope.

And in this case, wistfull memories of a lovely day at the beach with friends...

Another view

The night I was at the hospital shooting the moon, TOG... The old goat took me down this set of stairs. While it's a view he sees everyday, I kind of liked the industrial feel. Very behind-the-scenes.... stark... obscure...

So I edited these more toward black and white but not fully desaturated.

In the meantime, I'm kind of stuck on why I like them. They are not in my usual areas of interest; nature, sky, brute squad, kids, Ben, etc....

They're not even particularly attractive.

Perhaps I like them for the same reason I like watching oocky medical shows on tv? Or crab fisherman?

They're unattractive.

Clearly, I'm using them to break out of my funk around my last two posts.

Mission accomplished!

Now... be honest. In an ink blot type, analytical way... Do they say anything to you?

asthmagirl should eat more cupcakes

I thought so!

Through the eyes of The Engineer

This is The Engineer. Many of my long time readers will know him as TOG, The Old Goat. The Engineer is the love of my life, father of K1 through K3 and has more chest hair than any other man on the planet. While no scientific studies have been done in support of this claim, I stand by it, whole heartedly and unreservedly. The standing joke for K1 through K3 is to see their dad without a shirt and utter the comment "Nice sweater, Dad!" Bah dum bum! Get's 'em every time.

Other little known facts about The Engineer are the things he sees on his job. Things like this:

Or this...

Is it any wonder when The Engineer said "come see what I see at work" that I dilly dallyed? While the Engineer in TOG thrills to the sight of conduit in a parking garage or roof-top cooling units or hospital beds (he knows the model numbers, lifespan and everything), these are not the things that make Asthmagirl's goofy heart beat faster. No, it's not the chest hair either, that's just a bonus!

These are the things the Engineer knew I would want to see...

Puget sound with Maury Island jutting out in the middle...

And of course... my favorite subject!

So thanks TOG/Engineering dude! I'm saying this publically so there's no denying it...

You were right!

PS ~ This is not a solicitation for you to send me pictoral proof of men with chest hair. Seriously. If I want to see that, I'll look at TOG!

Namaste!

Full Moon Rising

From the roof of the hopital, on my knees, camera balanced on roof edge while TOG ran for the tripod. Taken at 20 second intervals... The lights at the bottom of each shot are runway lights for Seatac Airport.

No moons were harmed in the taking of these photos!
