Up on the Roof - Part Deux

One of the benefits (among many!) of being married to an engineer is that occasionally, very occasionally you get to go up on the roof of the hospital.... where you see things from a whole new perspective!

Last night, TOG took me up on the roof to capture the moon rise. It was an opportunity not to be missed!

While on the roof with my camera, tripod and engineer, I took the opportunity to shoot one of my favorite subjects, Mt. Rainier. And yes, that's a plane flying in front of it. The hospital is quite near the airport. So while I waited for moonrise, I took shots like this:

The mountains in the background are the cascades, where Rainier, Adams, Baker and St Helens all hang out!

I'm still working on the moon shots. They're amazing!

Stay tuned!

PS ~ Yes, I have more BlogFest shots to share as well! I'm drowning in shots that need editing!

Love affair

Yes, it's featured regularly in this space. I'm sorry, but I have a love affair with Mt. Rainier. In all it's moods, it is so photogenic, so surreal. I know I'm not shooting anything new, but it calls to me sometimes when I'm out driving. This was snapped on my way to Costco yesterday for work. Yes, I took a moment to pull over and bust out the camera. Don't tell the boss!

In other "love" news, iMom was over last night to get her hair colored. The Brute Squad rejoiced... they love her so! And she loves her job. Love, love, love! Unfortunately, she's still coming to grips with her work schedule/sleep schedule and thus, not blogging much right now. Between last night, and last week when TOG and I bumped into her and Handyman at the pub, I've rarely seen her so relaxed and happy!

And now, I must hit the road yet again to pull together the feast for the monthly staff meeting. I hear some scones calling my name. I may resist in order to be a little less jiggly for Blog Fest!

PS~ 94 degrees today! Woot!

Readiness?

I snapped this the other day on the way down to main street in my little town. It may have been when K3 and I were on our way to see Eclipse. I had the camera set up totally wrong, but I loved the image of the island across the sound and the Olympic Mountains in the background. Although the weather was spectacularly crappy this June, we have had the occasional nice day... followed by a couple days of cloudy and 65!

All of that is coming to an end this week as temps climb into the mid to upper 80's. We'll see if I can keep from whining about the warm weather I wished for!

In other news, I think I leave for Virginia (and Blogfest!) in 9 days! Which means I've entered the mental preparation phase. This consists of:

  • wishing I wasn't so "jiggly"
  • wishing I were mildly thinner (I know they'll love me anyway)
  • wishing the self tanner I've been smearing on my legs religously would kick in
  • wishing my hair wouldn't frizz in the humidity
  • wishing I were better with my camera in stead of (still) struggling along
  • wishing my leg hair would grow so I could wax before I leave
  • wishing this blotch on my forehead would develop into something I could treat instead of sitting there teasing me

Stay tuned for the next phase which consists of panic attacks about packing and wondering if my summer clothes still fit.

With the warm weather on the way, drop by the Asthmatic Kitchen to see what I'm scarfing down huge bowls of!

What are you eating?

Survival!

The event is over and we survived!

My event was to construct and run a golf cart obstacle course. It was very entertaining and the teams had a great time "conquering" it!

Now, I would like to collapse.

Instead I'm going to get dressed and go to work, and finish putting away games and dis-assembling signs and cleaning up my office.

Before I sign off, I would like to thank yesterday's sponsors...

The butt crack of dawn

Sweat

Sunscreen

Water pistols

Darts that bounced off Balloons instead of popping them

Foam dice with round edges that kept rolling and rolling and....

Illegally driving the golf cart down city streets without a ticket

Asthma attacks (mild) that sneak up on you

Camera batteries that die in the middle of the scavenger hunt

Granitas!

Air conditioning on the drive home

Daughters that did the dishes while you were at work

And the last minute sponsor, the 85 degree day instead of the cool 65 and showers that was predicted

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Happy Independence Day!

I have to start out by saying it is NEVER nice here on the 4th of July. Most Seattlites would agree the good weather doesn't rear it's head until after the festivities and fireworks. Usually 'cloud cover' and 'scattered showers' are our by-words for the day. Thus, the fact that it's been in the 80's most of the week is startling, let alone the predicted mid to upper 80's today. We're having to dig out shorts and tank tops!

TOG is back from Alaska and caught many, many fish. He was very surprised when he saw what we did while he was vacationing! The girls and I stained our cedar fence! It took us three days as we did it by hand (no sprayer)! Unfortunately TOG worked a 12 hour shift last night and is now sleeping, so we haven't been able to enjoy his return as much as we would like.

K3 and I and the Brute Squad are heading out to the island to see Dad and other members of the family for our traditional grill fest! I anticipate it will be about 90 at the island but hopefully there will be a breeze. We're having a fireworks free fourth (which makes the asthma happy). We don't do fireworks out on the island and you can't see any fireworks from Dad's house. But if I drive home late enough I should see some as I pass Olympia and Tacoma.

Oh, and a shout out to my "neighbors" in the apartments behind us... I'm really enjoying the M80 firecracker festivities this last week. I had forgotten the traditional "illegal fireworks sneak attack" that leads up to the 4th. The ones y'all set off at 3:30 this morning were very loud indeed! Kudos! The Brute Squad is particularly fond of the multiple launch sequences. I think Fiona must have been in 'Nam as she appears to be reliving some sort of traumatic incendiary rocket attack. Good thing she is unarmed!

Here's hoping that your 4th of July is all that! Enjoy... oh and lets be safe out there!

The Pier

It's either been flaming hot or nice summer weather here in Seattle lately, depending on who you ask! For me, it's flaming hot, yesterday was 86. Today the same. Tomorrow even warmer. I dream of air conditioning!

My go-to choice for hot weather is to take the Brute Squad down to the water front where salt water breezes off the water generally cool things off about 10 degrees. So comfortable. As I was walking Cassie last night, I noticed something...

She's about the same size as the curb! Heart of a lion though.... another larger dog approached her and she had her low growl ready! What a dope. She's pretty sure she's top dog though!

We made our way past the Quartermaster's office and over to the water front park which has a huge lawn....

First they like to scope things out...

Lots of sniffing the air to make sure there aren't any lions! Then we take off the leashes and for Maddie... that's when the running starts!

While Cassie...

...just plows through the grass after me!

Yup! The Brute Squad loves the pier!

On a hot and hazy day, it's just right!
