My other love is a pigskin!

Photography is a huge one for me.

But my other love is football. It has been since I sat next to my dad as a 4 year old and he explained why Notre Dame was going to win the game he was watching. I may have been the only girl in my 5th grade class who did a book report on the Johnny Unitas book I bought from scholastic book club!

Yes, I'm a football dork.

This week, in order to satisfy my inner dork, I submitted a writing sample of a football article to a sports website and much to my surprise was accepted as a staff writer.

No, it doesn't pay. No, I don't care.

Writing sports articles is just one more way to flex my writing muscle and the pay off is getting to write about a sport I love so well. Even better, I don't have to be an expert, I just have to have an opinion!

I'll be working on my secret dork handshake and decoder ring!

Hut! Hut!

An adventure?

A certain someone told me just this morning that there is bravery and charm in being spontaneous and climbing in the car for an adventure (and bringing the passports in case we veer off into Canada).

While that may be true, I admit to being somewhat disconbobulated at that thought of not only not knowing where I'm going, but if I'm going!

So here's my plan...

I have no plan.

Seriously.

But I do have poetry...

An ode to the unprepared:

Mayhem, chaos, self preservation...

Traveling without reservations...

Spontaneous makes my butt cheeks clench...

But it makes the Old Goat's heart content...

The End!

What kind of traveler are you? Reservations? Or a full tank of gas and some clean underwear?

Bad photography

I'm posting a few additional shots TOG and I took last weekend. I find it interesting to shoot with TOG because he sees things completely differently than I do. Not in a bad way, just differently...

Take the shot above... TOG insisted I take this shot. When I hesitated, he explained that he loved the green of the bank of trees next to the water. I felt it wasn't enough of a focol point so I framed in the rocks in front of us as well to give perspective. Otherwise it would have looked like this...

Which is the shot TOG wanted me to take. Either way, I wouldn't have shot it. Which is why it's so entertaining to do photography with him!

Now this shot I took. TOG thought it was a bad shot. He's right. It's bad in that it isn't interesting at all. That's because it is the town I live in. Nothing happens here. Let me give you a tour. See the orange cone on the far right left? That's the entrance to the harbor. We don't have a boat, so it's not interesting at all. See all the condos facing the water? This is where we can't afford to live. They have a beautiful view of Maury Island and Puget Sound. See the tiny water tower on the far left right? That's the hill I live on... That's really about all there is in our town aside from a couple of dive restaurants, a few stoplights and good proximity to the airport and the main freeway to Seattle. This is the charm of our town, this little pocket of non-development so close to the "big city"!

This concludes our tour of bad photography!

I wonder...?

Another shot from the archives.

I like the green popping through with that first burst of spring.

I like thinking of the beaver looking at the tree and thinking "Nah... that's not too big!"

And I wonder if the beaver just lost interest in the tree after he chewed it down...?

I wonder if I've gotten enough fiber lately...?

I wonder what the beaver does in his spare time...?

I wonder why the folks in Washington DC makes their projects so dang complicated...?

I wonder if I have time for breakfast...?

What do you wonder?

You're soaking in it

Thanks to the probiotics my friend KT at work recommended, I am keeping one of the antibiotics down. The lab work came back and the infection is indeed MRSA. It is sensitive to the antibiotic I'm currently taking.

Unfortunately, Dr. M (who calls daily to check on me) believes there is still a pocket of infection. After several conversations, I believe he subscribes to the school of thought "Load your weapons! If it won't surrender, we're going in after it!" This is a very new and unattractive side to his character.

On the other hand, TOG says I should let him Ginsu my arm if that would resolve the issue. I suppose it's a better option than letting the MRSA go all medieval on me... but still...

I want to believe the antibiotics will work, but most of all, I would like my arm back. Hot packing it all weekend leaves a lot to be desired.

Off to boil my clothes and bleach the washing machine.

PS~ Thank goodness I have the Olympics to distract me! Who would have thought the US would do so well... Um, Baroness? Sorry about the hockey thing. It was an accident.

PPS~ Deadliest Catch marathon anyone? RIP Captain Phil!

Sound the Alarm!

I may have mentioned that I work in a Valley. One of the benefits of working in the valley other than the lung wrecking air quality is the gorgeous view of the mountain (see above).

But the mountain is not the only thing I see on my way to work each morning. I also see this:

I know you are asking yourself does this woman have nothing better to do what kind of contraption that might be...

This is our local lahar warning system.

[editor's note: lahar: A wet mass of volcanic fragments flowing rapidly downhill. Lahars usually contain ash, breccia, and boulders mixed with rainwater or with river or lake water displaced by the lava flow associated with the volcano.]

Mount Rainier is actually a live volcano. Not unlike her sister peak Mount St. Helens who erupted in 1980. Fortunately for us, Rainier is taking a good long nap. However, in the event she wakes up any time soon, the powers that be have installed a lahar warning system throughout the valley so that the population can attempt to make it to higher ground should she blow.

Thus ends this glimpse into the easily fascinated mind of Asthmagirl interesting local details of my world. Try to remain calm.

PS ~ Thank you for asking, K3 is doing well although heartily tired of soft foods and frustrated by her attempts to eat anything firmer than cream of wheat. Sigh...
