It's not easy...

It's not easy being a Chihuahua in the snow.

It's hard to find a place to go.

"Hurry up, Maddie," says my Mum.

But every time I lower my bum...

BBBRRRRRRRRRR!

Snow Day

There have been rumblings in Seattle Media about the snow coming! We haven't had any yet this winter, so there was quite a bit of anticipation! And it actually did snow!

During a break in the snowfall, Maddie and I went out front to get her perspective...

She pronounced it Chilly! (this is her abused look)

Apparently Chihuahuas aren't on board for 34 degrees and snow. Who knew?

Wishing you a beautiful day in your neighborhood!

Warmly, AG

Heavy Duty

The Old Goat and Madeline did some heavy duty nursing over the past week.

As did K2 and the rest of the Brute Squad.

And K3 of course.

Thank goodness for nurses, both 2 legged and 4 footed.

Warmly, AG

PS ~ special shout out to the lovely MPM who has her own nurses that are making a difference!

Chihuahua Appreciation Day!

Today Famous Chihuahua has deemed May 14th as their second annual International Chihuahua Appreciation Day! Fortunately, one of my friends tipped me off, otherwise I might have gone on treating the Brute Squad much as I normally do... making them breakfast, cuddling them, playing with them, chopping up chicken breast for their dinner,etc...

It's hard for me to describe the total impact of the Brute Squad upon our lives. What I appreciate most about them is their quirks. They are so unique and funny! But their common traits are endearing as well... such as their utter determination to lay upon, next to and around anyone that is feeling poorly for any reason. They have truly enriched our lives!

So... thank you Fiona!

For being nobody's fool. Not a pushover. Not willing to hand off guard duties to any other dog. Always willing to push her way to the front in line. Is considering getting the phrase Front and Center! tattooed on her behind! Always willing to throw herself to the floor and roll over if there's even a whiff of puppy biscuit in the air! Secretly loves babies!

Thank you Madeline Louise:

For having the best face ever! For being the sweetest, most determined cuddler and the most unique dog I've ever owned. Your fears of food and water dishes, hardwood floors, loud noises, forks and every other dog on the planet (brute-squad members excluded) keeps us on our toes finding solutions so you can feel safe! Member of the clean leg club. Secretly loves cats and socks! Oh... and you have the best smile ever!

Thank you my little Cassie:

My little general... My little rule maker! Head squirrel permiter monitor, cat herder, director of seating charts, stealer of toys and head of dog dish compliance! In her spare time, she moonlights as a drama queeen, pretends to be subservient and allows tummy rubs. Proficient at making "moon-y eyes" to gain sympathy!

Utterly fearless, completely in charge... If they had a ultimate Chihuahua contest, my money would be on her!

So there you have it. If you don't have a Chihuahua to appreciate, you can appreciate ours. Or you can appreciate the fact that we wrangle them daily so you don't have to!

Happy Chihuahua Appreciation Day!

Spring - albeit a little wet!

Through the macro lens yesterday after noon. A little break in the rain, some damp feet from the garden, but well worth it!

The Old Goat's flowers are starting to bloom. TOG has been really pushing for the bulbs the last couple years and I have to say that come spring time, I appreciate the burst of color after a drab winter!

Apparently, I am not the only one!

Happy Monday!

Soft in the head...?

Or soft in the heart...?

I need another Chihuahua like I need another 5 pounds around my waistline.

But the thought that there might be a little Chihuahua that desperately needs a home or he'll be going to a shelter... Gah.

Yup. I'm soft in the head.

I hope the other person looking at him snaps him up.

Puppy Love

I've been dying to use my new macro lens, but with our icky weather, there hasn't been much of interest to shoot outside on a macro level. But when spring comes, watch out!

In the meantime, I always have Maddie to point the camera at. Let's look a little closer at my favorite Chihuahua.

  • I love her whiskers! Maddie is a very whisker-y dog!
  • I love her wrinkles. Just look at those neck wrinkles! Thankfully, they look a whole lot better on a Chihuahua than a human. Not that I would know...
  • Madeline has large expressive eyes. You always know what she's thinking!
  • I like the divot in-between her eyes. It probably means she's missing the part of the Chihuahua brain that allows her to cope with stress, but it's very appealing aestetically!

In profile...

  • I love how Maddie's nose turns up at the end! It's one of her best features!
  • I love the wrinkled brow when she's worried about something.
  • I love the black hairs on the back of her ears!
  • See that soft patch of hair under her ear. It has a couple black hairs. Right behind that she's practically bald. It's as soft as peach fuzz there. It's the perfect place to nuzzle her!

And now you all know what a freak I am!

Freakishly yours,

AG

Holiday Greetings

The Brute Squad has completed their holiday preparations.

The tree has been inspected for squirrels...

The presents have been sorted by smell... those that may contain puppy biscuits are closer to the front.

And now the holiday portrait has been taken!

From the entire Brute Squad.... a Happy Holidays, no matter how you celebrate!

Born to be Bad

This is Cassie.

Cassie is a long coat Chihuahua. She weighs four pounds.

Cassie was meant to be a mountain lion... or a German Shepherd... or a Wolf with a large territory to patrol.

Constantly on guard, ever vigilent, totally willing to take on all comers... She's the first to investigate any unexpected  noise in the house, leaping from her bed to sound the alarm. Even when woken from a sound sleep, she begins barking from under the blanket to let the perp know she's on to him and will be there shortly to dismember his sorry ass.

Conversely, when done terrifying visitors with her fierce bark, she's the first to kiss an extended hand or climb in a lap.

She is also the regulator. She makes the rules about who can (Maddie) or cannot (Fiona) sneak frood from another dog's dish. She also determines which cat is allowed in the house (Bad Girl) and which is not (Buddy Boy). She's not above cornering a cat and sounding the alarm if they are where they should not be, either in the house or in a room of the house she's deemed off limits to them.

And she's hell on squirrels, birds and any neighborhood cat unlucky enough to stray into her back yard.

I think she has Born to be Bad tattooed on her behind.

Don't ever call her Foo Foo!

AG out!

PS~ All the dog toys are hers. She won't compromise on that.

Halloween has gone to the dogs!

Maddie: Crap! It's not Halloween again, is it?

Fiona: I'm afraid so. Didn't you see her digging out the costumes last night?

Cassie: How is that different from any other day she dresses us up?

Maddie: Do you have to ask?

Fiona: Wait until the holidays when she breaks out the big costumes...

All: Is this what they mean when they say it's a dog's life?

Fiona, Maddie and Cassie out!
