The Memory

Worked late last night... we had a meeting with our auctioneer for this fall's event. She is an awesome person... so approachable and knowledgeable. I don't know how she does it, but she has this phenomenal memory. She remembers everyone's name and where she knows them from, and she can access that info in the middle of a training and never lose her place. She also remembers auctions and items she's sold and where to get them... I would love to have that kind of a memory bank! I bumble along with multiple lists, taking notes and checking things off as I go!

I'm running short of time this morning, but I do have some things to catch up on here... a couple of posts in the works. Now that the heat has broken, maybe my brain will work again!

How's your memory? Do you have everything at your fingertips?

Challenged...

In a week, I'll be climbing on a plane with The Baroness and winging my way to Virginia to attend BlogFest.

I'm not excited or anything. Today I bought these sandals online...

I was going to buy them last month but I spent my shoe money on a new lens. Actually I spent the next two years of shoe money on this lens... but these were on sale so I bought them anyway. Naughty!

I'd like to be getting the suitcases down to pack, but I've got so much to do right now, really all I can do is look at the suitcase...

This morning I'm driving my Dad and my step mom to the airport at 5:30am. They're off to Texas for a few days. Then I have to wash my face and take off to pick up food as Thursday is also staff meeting day. Thursday night, iMom is coming over to get her hair done.

So maybe this weekend I can start strategizing about which case to take. I've never, ever packed light but I always think "this time for sure".

Anyone else have any tips on packing light? I think I might need the big case just for my sandals and inhalers. And I'm pondering bringing Guido, the laptop... But I'd have to figure out reception.

Okay, enough blather... Gotta hit the road.

Unsophisticated West Coast Hicks

Headed your way!

In case you're wondering what spurred yesterday's anxiety attack... In about a week, The Baroness von Bloggenschtern and yours truly will be winging our way East-ward to meet fellow bloggers at Blog Fest 2009. Unlike BlogHer, Blog Fest will be smaller in scale, enjoy much warmer temperatures and have "off the charts" humidity going for it. Not to mention some of the funniest, sweetest women you've ever met. I can't think why they're letting me come... Perhaps their vetting process is similar to the one used on last year's republican VP candidate...?

I think most of us are experiencing some level of anxiety as we pack... after all there's a lot on the line. The Baroness is representin' 604 (the area code for Vancouver, BC).... Home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. As the Blog Fest representative for her entire Province, she's understandably fretful about creating a positive impression. As a courtesy, I'm showcasing the 2010 Olympic mascots. Let this be a precursor to those who have yet to meet The Baroness... she's twice this adorable (and much less furry)!

Of the two of us, I have less pressure. I'm only representing the home of $4 a cup coffee

 and really expensive operating systems...

and everyone's favorite foot fashion... the ubiquitous socks with sandals.

As a footnote (HAR! I crack myself up!), I will not be subscribing to the dual shod fashion while navigating points east! Mostly because I don't want people laughing behind my back as I drag my luggage through the airport! [footnote 2: Asthmagirl's luggage is not made of possum skin. She's upgraded to raccoon.]

So what am I worried about as I consider going off to meet these friends? Not much. A brief survey of attendees indicates that 90% of us believe we're pudgy, uninteresting and poorly groomed. That same 90% believe that everyone else there will be slim, fascinating, well traveled, bilingual and incapable of sweating. I've done the math... I'm pretty sure all of us will be sweating.

My one request to fellow attendees? If I look like I'm about to keel over from the heat and humidity and my death grip on my inhaler is slipping...? Please, do not ask me if I feel okay or tell me I don't look so good. Let's work on some alternate phrasing, shall we?

"The spam carving contest is over here" could easily substitute for " Holy cow, is she even breathing".

or...

"Does anyone know how to do a Viking funeral" could be code for "someone find her inhaler before we have to set her ablaze and push her out to sea".

And the Baroness and I have already worked up our response to any major faux pas that we might unknowingly make... "Well, that's how it's done on the West Coast". Um... Baroness? I think we need to work on that before we get on the plane next week. Just sayin...

Yours in Blog Fest anticipation,

Asthmagirl

Inept

Tomorrow, I'm taking K3 down to the waterfront to shoot her Senior Portrait. We'll be here...

(photo blatantly and unapologetically stolen from imom)

Yes, my youngest is technically graduating from high school. The technicality is that they are withholding half a credit so she can go back next year and do career exploration and integration. They can either find her internships or allow her to enroll in vocational training programs at the tech school. All of which is available to her until she turns 21, due to her disability. At that point, she'll lose her eligibility for public school and it's resources and she'll be dependent on TOG and I. Due to recent budget cuts in our state, I don't see her ever being eligible for state disability resources. But this does give her a couple years of services and training to help her find what she wants to do.

So tomorrow, we'll cover up the pink of her newly waxed eyebrows, doll her up (K2 and I) and hopefully get some beautiful shots for her announcements. I wish I was more proficient with the camera, but considering the beautiful scenery, and the special occasion, maybe I can make up for my ineptitude with the camera and get a "lucky shot"!

And I guess I can always compensate for my poor photography with my weak Photoshop skillz. Poor kid!
