Concert Review - Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers

On Saturday, TOG and I went to see Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend this show! While TOG and I love going to comedy shows and concerts, we really didn't know what to expect from this show given Steve's reputation as both a comedian and a banjo player...

Musically, this is definitely some of the best bluegrass music I've ever heard. While Steve Martin is an accomplished banjo player, this whole band is so awesome that they would be worth seeing with or without him. The concert was fun, upbeat and vastly entertaining from start to finish.

On the comedy side, This is the only music concert I've ever been to that I needed my inhaler for because I was laughing so hard! I was very glad I remembered to bring it! The band at times, was almost like a bunch of straight men for Steve. And while I'm sure they rehearsed the material, it came off as fresh and not contrived. Great timing all around. The band did an amazing, soul stirring, a cappella song while Steve was off stage. When he came back on, his comment was "That was amazing... I just have to say, it's going to sound even better when you boys learn to play your instruments with it!"

All in all, this was just the perfect balance of music and humor. They are touring through much of the summer. If you get the chance to see them, they are well worth your time!

AG out!
